Five Florida authors receive awards for their book excellence

October 2001 - Orlando, October 2001: The Florida Publishers Association today announced the winners of the 2001 President's Book Awards for book excellence. This is the first year for the awards, they are presented to authors of outstanding titles in six categories: Fiction - Adult and Children, Nonfiction - Adult and Children, Cover Design and Florida Title,

This year's winners are:

Cover Design: Gasparilla: Pirate Genius by James Kaserman (Pirate Publishing International)
Fiction - Adult: Clash of Souls by Nancy Fox (Legacy Publishing)
Fiction - Children: The Berry Birds by Barry and Glenda Temple (Jawbone Publishing Corp)
Nonfiction - Adult: For Health's Sake: A Cancer Survivor's Cookbook by MyLinda Butterworth (Day to Day Enterprises)
Nonfiction - Children: The Patchwork Angel by Judy L. Weyand (In Unexpected Ways)
Florida Title: Gasparilla: Pirate Genius by James Kaserman (Pirate Publishing International)

The awards were presented at the banquet following the Fall Ed-U-Conference on October 6, 2001, at the Quality Inn in Orlando, Florida. On hand to present the awards were Jim Cox of Midwest Book Review and Vice-President of FPA, Dinah Arnette.

This award was begun in 2001 and is awarded for book excellence. A committee of three judges considers and evaluates dozens of titles submitted by Florida authors and publishers. This years judges were: Robert O. Day, a retired professor of communications and an author; Paula Kalinoski, an editor from Red Ink and Linda S. Humphrey a correspondent for the Orlando Sentinel and The Florida Magazine.
