- Former Resident Gives Benefit Performances for Grant Elementary School
(September 2005) When Linda S. Day decided to return to Long Beach for her 50 year Jordan High School class reunion she thought it would be "fun to give back to the city that raised her." So on Friday, September 9th, Day who is affectionately known as Grandma will arrive at Grant Elementary School in her large flowered hat and oversized apron to do a daylong benefit performance for her old elementary school.
- Hidden WWII Diary to be introduced by Local Author
(February 2006) Jay Coffman took a big risk in keeping a diary during his time as an infantryman in the South Pacific during World War II. Living in a combat zone during the war meant that it was a court martial offense to keep a diary, yet Jay wrote of his experiences on scraps of paper and hid them in his personal effects.

It seems that Grandma has found a way to keep children of all ages mesmerized with the ancient art of paper cutting as she tells stories in the schools.

(August 2000) Noon Friday, August 18th at Friends Hair Design in Winter Springs author MyLinda Butterworth* and her daughter’s best friend Laila Grigley (age 6 1/2) are getting a hair cut. While this doesn’t seem like such a big deal to most people it is a gift of love. MyLinda‘s pitch-black hair hangs several inches past her waist and her petite sidekick Laila’s long blond curly hair is also past her waist.
